CHEF’S CHALLENGE

MASTER CHEF, POTJIEKOS COOK-OFF, BAKING & PIZZA CHALLENGE

CHEF’S CHALLENGE

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and sharpen your senses! The Chef’s Challenge invites your team to dive into a multifaceted culinary adventure. Pick your theme from four delicious options: Bake Off, Master Chef, Pizza Making, or Potjiekos Cook-Off. But it’s not just about cooking, teams also battle it out with food quizzes and table setting challenges, testing creativity, knowledge, and teamwork every step of the way.

How It Works:

  • Select your preferred theme (Bake Off, Master Chef, Potjiekos, or Pizza Challenge)
  • Alongside the cooking challenge, teams compete in food trivia quizzes and table setting competitions.
  • Expert facilitators provide guidance, tips, and keep energy high.
  • Teams are judged on taste, creativity, presentation, teamwork, and quiz/table setting scores.
  • The event concludes with a fun tasting and awards ceremony.

MASTER CHEF

Think of it as the TV show without anyone shouting at your team. Groups split into kitchen stations, get briefed on a menu, and have around two hours to turn out a starter and a main they’d happily serve at home. We can tweak menus for halaal or kosher dietary requirements, and we’ll match the difficulty to your group.

What makes it work is what happens once the timer starts. You find out fast who steps up, who delegates, and who quietly rescues the sauce while everyone else is arranging garnish. By the time the plates go down, you’ve got a proper meal in front of you and a much clearer read on how your team operates when the heat is literally on.

Best for: teams that want a longer, more immersive day with a real sit-down meal at the end.

POTJIEKOS COOK-OFF

Few things bring a South African team together like a potjiekos. Cast-iron pot, open flame, a long, slow afternoon, and a group of people slowly working out how to feed everyone. We provide the pots, the gas cookers, and a generous spread of meat, vegetables, herbs, and sauces. Teams pitch their flavour brief to the judges upfront so there’s something to score against. Then it’s down to who gets bold with spice and who plays it safe.

Judging happens on taste, presentation, and consistency, but the real moment is at the end. Every team ladles out their potjiekos, the whole group eats together, and the winning bunch gets the bragging rights for the rest of the year. Competitive on the surface, communal underneath, which is the way potjiekos has always worked.

Best for: groups that want something distinctly South African, ideal as a lunch or evening event.

PIZZA CHALLENGE

Hand-stretched dough, a hot oven, and a prep table loaded with toppings. Teams build their pizzas from scratch, give them a name, pitch them to the judges, and then crowd around the oven while they cook in a couple of minutes flat. It’s faster than the potjiekos, messier than the Master Chef, and there’s always flour on at least three people who swore they wouldn’t get involved.

The team that gets a bit weird with toppings usually wins. We’ve seen everything from biltong and feta to chocolate dessert pizzas pitched with a straight face. Hands on, high energy, and easy to slot into a half-day team build or as the activity portion of a longer event.

Best for: groups who want something quick, lively, and full of personality without losing a whole day to it.

BAKE OFF

This is the one for the people on your team you didn’t know had a creative streak. Cakes come pre-baked so nobody is fighting an oven. The challenge is decoration, presentation, and pulling off a finished cake that actually looks like it was meant to. Teams earn their toppings, frostings, and decorations by completing fun sweet challenges along the way, so the more rounds they win, the better their decorating kit gets.

Indoor, low pressure, and surprisingly competitive once teams realise the judges are scoring on originality and finish. Quieter than the cook offs but no less fun, and it tends to surface the talents people don’t usually bring to the office. Great for end-of-year functions and mixed groups where you want everyone involved without anyone having to wrestle a fire pit.

Best for: indoor events, year end functions, and teams who want creative without the heat.
