Icebreakers or Corporate Energisers are facilitation exercises intended to help a group in the process of forming themselves into a team. Icebreakers are commonly presented as a game to “warm up” the group by helping the members to get to know each other. These can be focused on sharing personal information such as names, hobbies, etc. They are also extremely useful in mobilising a group in-between workshop sessions or presentations.
An icebreaker should be related to the subject or the purpose of the meeting. For example, if a collaborative learning environment is needed for a training project, then an icebreaker exercise that promotes collaboration could be chosen. If the subject of the meeting is reading books, then the subject of the meeting could be introduced through an exercise that revolves around participant’s favourite books.
Bluenaartjie Concepts Icebreakers are relaxing and non-threatening. This means that icebreakers in a professional setting do not require people to reveal sensitive information or to touch others if this causes stress or is culturally inappropriate. Our program does not embarrass participants or make them feel compelled to participate, nor do they show disrespect for any social and professional hierarchies in the group.
At the end of an Icebreaker or Energiser exercise, the facilitator will summarise for the group what was learned during the exercise. Participants are more alert, attentive and interactive when work sessions are broken with a 15 – 30min exercise or activity. We have a range of different exercises for both in and outdoor, each achieving the fantastic results.
